A Rojak Update

Since I started my job in early August, my life became busier, and pardon me for not updating my blog, my HK trip for a long long time. Hak...hak.......chiu, dust is stacking inches by inches on my blog page, so need to do some clean up first, so not much photos a...

So, how's my a normal working day looks like?

7.20-7.25am Wake up after N times of snoozing my handphone alarm alert.
7.25-7.35am Wash up, put my working clothes (sounds so formal, actually my dressing is just polo-T with long pants, haha)...
7.35am Leave house & try to reach Chinese Garden MRT by 7.45am...emm, which means walking for 10 mins.
7.45-7.50am Get onboard on MRT towards Yio Chu Kang. Most of the time, I'll sleep all the way to YCK.

~8.30am See, although Singapore is a small island, time taking for MRT to run from West to North Singapore can be quite long. Reach Yio Chu Kang station, go to the bus stop & wait for company shuttle bus to come at 8.35am. The bus service comes at every 10 minutes. Without this service, I'll need to walk for 15 minutes + several litres of sweat will be vaporized into the air.

9am Start work!
12-1pm Makan! Lunch time! Either take away at company's cafeteria or food centre opposite my company.
6pm Finish work! But most of the time, I'll follow up my job & leave company around 7-8pm. Again, sleep in the train on the journey back to the West.

Between 9-10pm Reach at home, rest & bath.
10.30pm & beyond Rest, then do surveys on product packaging information. I've been helping a Master student in NTU on product packaging infos, eg: nutrition information, 3rd party seals, etc. Have been doing this since July as that time I haven't found a job, this assignment offers me some allowances.
12.00-1.00am ZzZzZzzz...

How about weekends? Besides rushing the product info assignment, I frequent go back to NTU to find friends & stay overnight in the hostel...or should I say short weekend vacation at NTU? Haha.

Next time I'll post more on my job...or perhaps you can take a look via this link. My company is hiring people now, interested? An interesting and very exciting job I should say, where you can talk with different people with different personalities. Sounds cool huh? :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31st of August is Hari Kebangsaan or National Day of Malaysia! Every year Malaysians in NTU celebrate the independence of Malaysia together via an event called Merdaka Night, a fun-filled function where friends gather around and enjoy the performances or shows done by the organizing committees or among ourselves.

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

This year, let's see how a millionaire show links together with Merdeka celebration :)

Anticipating the stage performance, as I am participating in this sketch too! Hehe...as professional keh-leh-feh. Wohoho...

Get Set for a New Life Journey

Arr, it has been around 2 weeks since the last post, because have been busy recently on part time jobs and interviews as well as...a bit lazy.

Time flies, it's the period where graduating students are waiting for: Convocation! This marks the end of study life for most of the students (some may choose to study for postgraduate courses) and the beginning life of working life. Some would think that "Ah, no more exams!!!", but do aware that more challanges are waiting for you in future o: careers, family, etc. For me, I will miss my school life a lot: busy with ECAs and projects, soak myself in the sea of TVB series, etc.

On the other hand, after months of searching, I have finally found my job! Guess what, it's Apple!

"an apple a day keeps the doctor away!" Work as an eater to eat apples everyday?

No la, it's Steve Job's Apple!

This is a 2-month contract job as Online Store Customer Service Representative, helping customers on pre- or post-sales through phone calls. Sounds easy, but could be challenging as different customers could have different demands and requests. Hope to perform well in this job and if given opportunity, hope can seek for long term employment with Apple! :) Also happy to know that some of my friends also got this offer! And more and more are getting jobs! Congratulations! *hand claps*

And by the way, I will continue my story-tellings (or long-winded stories?) on my Hong Kong trip, got Ocean Park, the Peak, Stanley, etc, soon. Sorry for keep you guys waiting! Here are some sneak previews on my coming posts!

Continue to explore the city area of Hong Kong island...

Ocean Park, summer fiesta there...

Solo backpack to the Giant Buddha / Po Lin Monastery at Mui Wo...

What's so nice about this building?

K, gonna sleep, as my parents will be reaching Singapore in a couple of hours later.

Take care!

My university convocation ceremony is scheduled to be at the end of this month, and my dad and mum will be travelling down to Singapore to attend it. But earlier last month, I have bought myself the graduation gown. As not all of my family members are coming to Singapore to attend the convo, I brought my convo gown home to have a pre-convocation phototaking with my family...last week :)

Job Hunts around...did I found any?

Something unfortunate happened yesterday.

In microscopic view, I lost all my photos. So, my posts in future could be more words than photos.

In a bigger view, I lost my FYP stuffs, my four years of academic stuffs (softcopy), all sort of songs, installation files, career-related files, etc.

In a bigger than bigger view, I lost my external hard disk.

In a macroscopic view, I lost my 250Gb external hard disk, a working shirt with tie, water bottle, some education certificates, a set of casual shirt and pants.

To summarize, overall, I lost my bag...due to negligence.

Let's pray that good Samaritans able to find my bag and hand over to the campus security office.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, some updates on my career hunts.

After applied for 37 companies for 40+ different kinds of jobs (engineering, logistics, management trainee, sales & marketing, etc...) since last October, went for 6 campus walk-in interviews, being invited for a phone interview and 4 company interviews, finally...

...I am still hunting for jobs...sweat hor...when I meet with my friends, the first question would be: "Hey, working now lar?" or "Found a job already?" similar kind of questions. Yes, for current economic situation, it is quite hard to get a permanent job as the employers would become more picky and choose only the best among the best (IQ + EQ + skills + characteristics + ...). For me, I was quite fortunate that I have been invited for several phone or face-to-face interviews at their respective companies to present (or hard sell? lol) myself, but as I said, employers would choose the best among the best, and hence I kena rejected for several times.

However, plenty companies chose to silent themselves and did not reply me whether I was been selected for further considerations or not. No email replies, no phone calls, most probably my application was in non-recycleable bin already. So, my life everyday was just waiting and waiting...and sourcing for job searches concurrently. This week I am working part time in NTU Annual Teaching & Learning Seminar for a week, at least can support part of my housing rental...and my meals (seminar ma, so got free breakfast, tea time, lunch meals).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's talk one happy stuff, also happened yesterday: I won Jolin Tsai's latest album "Butterfly" and a poster! Thanks Jurong Point! Perhaps this could be a good sign that bad lucks will be gone away, and good news coming on soon? Hopefully yes!

And Fireflyz is flying Ipoh - Singapore from July 09 onwards! From RM88 onwards inclusive tax & surcharge! Check http://www.fireflyz.com.my for more details!

My IA

IA, or Industrial Attachment, is a compulsory module for NTU engineering students throughout the four years of undergraduate studies. Most of the students will participate this programme for almost half a year, or 22-weeks in their third year of study. I did IA in first half '08 @ Sony Precision Engineering Center (SPEC), Tuas. It is indeed an truly memorable experience for me as I learnt a lot of skills and used lotz of equipments which I haven't been used before. If you want to have ur IA with lotz of hands-on, lotz of learnings, then you should come to SPEC, just with some tradeoff of having OTs (No advertising, just suggesting, haah). Learn more for your future working life, good what, right?

How's my daily routine of IA life?

07:18hrs: Wake up (as compared to 6.30am initially, a bit late hor?)
07:30 - 07:35hrs: Uniform & Badge ready, Ready to walk to Canteen A bus stop to catch bus 179.

Often meet some friends along the way to work...

As normal working day, sure will meet these kind of situations often...

Ya, traffic jam on the road & people jam at bus stops. Transfer to bus 193 in front of Jurong West Sports Complex, which will fetch me to Tuas. But sometimes (a few times only, else I'll broke), being a boy who likes his bed a lot, wake up late, then I have no choice but to take this... (right below)... become more poorer, aiseh.

Fortunately my company is at Tuas, or else...

08:15 - 08:40hrs: Reach SPEC, depends on the traffic flow. Swipe my working pass. Can't late at or after 08:40hrs to prevent a reduction on salary, haha.

08:30 - 11:50hrs: Morning briefing, Working
11:50hrs: Lunch, either at company canteen or food court nearby, which has more choices

12:30 - 12:40hrs: Get back to work
15:00 - 15:10hrs: Tea time
17:30hrs: Go home, or when there is a need to rush projects, then just take a break, have dinner & continue work...

Get to know many new friends during this 6-months attachment period, they are...

my boss, Yeo-san; his assistant Xiao-Xiao and my god-like IA partner, Trung. Looks like a family hor, isn't it?

My IA friends who are working at the same site, taking photos with leng lui HR staffs. ~Shy shy leh~

My colleagues, who came from different parts of the world - Singapore, Malaysia, China, India, etc. See the person who is playing tennis? He's the AGM & my division's head, Steven-san. Thanks a lot for all the colleagues (Yeo-san, XiaoXiao, Xiao Xu, Lao Kang, Ben-san, Zuh, Kamarul, Peh, Hilmi, Leong, Patrick, Seva, Logan, Jamal, Jason, Cindy, Foo, etc...) who have been helping and teaching us throughout the 6-months internship. Thank you ありがとう!

Also, I have found some new 'friends' inside the company too! They are:

Vendor machine, where I used to press for Milo as my b'fast n tea time; Electronic component racks, where I get all the resistors, capacitors, trimmers, etc. from; Soldering machine, and; his opposition, the powerful de-soldering machine. When I firstly using the desoldering kit, it was like "wah, de-soldering also got a? Powerful leh!"

Not forgetting the uncle who drive his Kia to the main gate to sell curry puffs, nasi lemak, home-made ice lemon tea and so-on, after office hours. Many will queue up as their OT dinner or as snacks on their way back home. Cheap curry and sardin puffs @ 70cents each with ice lemon tea...yummylicious!

I have a wonderful experience in SPEC. :)
